What is the Handover Protocol?
The Handover protocol is a Facebook and Instagram feature that controls contacts' conversations and passes control over them between apps like Monty.
Use the Handover protocol if you have multiple apps. It prevents sending too many messages from different apps. If you're using only Monty, you don't need the Handover protocol.
Key Points:
- Redirect conversations to your Monty's inbox.
- Divert conversations to your Facebook page’s inbox.
- Shift conversations to another bot.
- Transition conversations from bot to human.
- Direct conversations to a social media management tool like Hootsuite.
How To Set Handover?
I. Configuring Handover Protocol
To assign an app as a Primary Receiver, you will need to:
- Go to your Facebook Page Settings.
- Select "New Pages Experience".
- Choose "Advanced messaging".
- Configure on the Messenger or Instagram receiver, depending on the channel where you experience issues.
- Select the app you want as the Primary Receiver from the dropdown.
II. Enable Handover Protocol
After completing the above steps, set up Handover by selecting the secondary app on the platform interface.
Handover automatically moves all conversations to the bot Inbox tab, while still retaining the conversation history.
III. Disable Handover Protocol
- Follow the same steps.
- Click on the app, deselect it, and "Select" will appear.
- Handover is now disabled.
Disabling Handover moves all conversations back to the Main folder of Page Inbox.
Note: After any change, review permissions through the Bot Settings tab.
